Versions of the Cisco VPN client released more than a month after Tiger first came out have all worked for me without problems. Upgrade. As a matter of interest, Apple claims that the version of their VPN client released in the Mac OS X 10.4.5 update works with Cisco VPN.

Anyone using the campus VPN network, vpn.net.rpi.edu, should be using this Anyconnect client. There are known issues with the built-in Mac OS client. If defining the VPN type more precisely doesn't get you a better description of the connection error, you'll have to check through all of the VPN's settings. Make sure you have the right server name.
